Historic Timeline
Since 1981, Oriana House has worked to develop a full array of corrections and behavioral health services that address the changing needs of the community.
1981 - 1988
1981
Oriana House begins with a Driver Intervention Program in Akron, Ohio.
1983
Oriana House starts the first alternative DUI jail program in the Glenwood Jail.
1985
Residential Institutional Probation opens as a Work Release Program and Halfway House for men.
1987
The Work Release and Halfway House programs begin for women. Multiple DUI Offender Program opens. Treatment for substance use disorders is provided to correctional clients.
1989 - 1996
1989
Electronic Monitoring begins with Home Incarceration. On-site drug testing begins. The Bail Supervision Program is established.
1990
The Day Reporting Program is available as a non-residential sentencing option.
1992
The Summit County Community Based Correctional Facility opens. Residential Correctional Center opens to house the Work Release and Halfway House programs for women. The Employment Placement Program begins.
1994
The Juvenile Halfway House opened. (Closed in 2005 due to lack of funding.)
1995
The Terrence Mann Residential Center opens as a Work Release and Halfway House facility for men. Misdemeanor Drug Court (Recovery Court) is established in Akron Municipal Court. The Summit County ADM Crisis Center opens providing Detoxification, Central Assessment, and Drop-In services.
1996
The Chemical Dependency Treatment Center and a new Drug Screen Lab are completed. Nonresidential programs move to a building at 750 West Market Street. Ignition Interlock and Summit Link begin. (Ignition Interlock disbanded in 2000 due to lack of referrals)
1997 - 2004
1997
The Special Housing Adjustment Residential Program (SHARP) for men is developed.
1998
The Discretionary Rehabilitation Program is developed. Family Intervention Court is established.
1999
Oriana House expands beyond Summit County with the opening of the CROSSWAEH Community Based Correctional Facility for men in Seneca County to serve the counties of Crawford, Richland, Ottawa, Seneca, Sandusky, Wyandot, Erie, Ashland, and Huron.
2000
The Residential Treatment Program was established in Akron. Oriana House began managing Midtown Apartments in Akron to provide housing for homeless people. (Shuttered in 2009.)
2001
The Fannie M. Lewis Community Corrections and Treatment Center in Cleveland opens as a Halfway House. The Cliff Skeen Community Based Correctional Facility for Women opens in Akron. A new facility which houses a commercial kitchen and drug testing lab opens in Akron. SHARP for women opens in Akron.
2002
Felony Drug Court (The Turning Point Program) is established in Summit County Court of Common Pleas.
2004
Secure Controlled Remote Access Monitor (SCRAM) alcohol monitoring device/program begins.
2005 - 2012
2006
Summit Conty Reentry Court was established.
2007
CROSSWAEH CBCF for women opens in Tiffin. The Cleveland Transition Center opens. (Closed in 2013 due to lack of funding.)
2008
The Criminal Non Support Program begins in Akron.
2010
North Star Neighborhood Reentry Resource Center opens in Cleveland. Oriana House begins managing the Cuyahoga County Adult Probation Department’s Specialized Cognitive Offender Programming and Education program (SCOPE).
2011
The McDonnell Center Community Based Correctional Facility (CBCF) opens in Cleveland. Oriana House opens the Glenwood Assessment Center in Akron. Community Residential Centers are opened in Akron and Cleveland. The Lake Erie Community Corrections Center opens as a halfway house in Sandusky. (Shuttered in 2020 due to lack of referrals.)
2012
The Alternative Environment Program begins in Akron.
2013 - 2020
2013
Oriana House begins Day Programming Services in Cleveland. NO-BARS (Northwest Ohio Behavior and Reporting Services) opens in Fremont. (Shuttered in 2023 due to lack of funding.)
2014
Oriana House introduces Rigel Recovery Services in Summit and Seneca Counties to provide substance use treatment independent of the criminal justice system.
2015
Ambulatory Detoxification begins at the Summit County ADM Crisis Center. Recovery Support Housing opens at the Frederick Avenue Apartments in Akron. Oriana House Hough Center opens in Cleveland and Day Programming moves to this new location.
2017
Quick Response Teams are formed in Summit County to provide an in-person visit to those who overdose. Rigel Recovery Services and the Oriana House Reserve Center open in Marietta providing services to a 14-county area in southeast Ohio.
2018
Ambulatory Detoxification begins in Tiffin. Oriana House began working with the Drug Court (PIVOT) in Seneca County Common Pleas Court and Tiffin-Fostoria Municipal Court through September 2024.
2019
The Glenwood Jail is decommissioned and the Community Alternative Sentencing Center in Akron opens in its place. The Compass Drug Court Program begins in Washington County Court of Common Pleas. Rigel Recovery Residential Center opens in Marietta.
2020
Several non-residential programs move to a building on Furnace Street in Akron. A Quick Response Team is formed in Huron County.
2021 - Present
2021
The Cuyahoga County Diversion Center opens in Cleveland. Rigel Recovery Residential Center moves to a new location in Marietta and expands its services.
2022
Oriana House begins managing Seneca County Probation Services (through June of 2024).
2023
Rigel Recovery Services in Norwalk moves to a new location. Seneca County Pretrial Services begin under Oriana House for one year. The Washington County Pre-release Program begins.
